Needs new belt replaced - everything else is excellent. Vintage Philips Turntable Model 212 Electronic Complete All Original with Box. A neighbor of mine had an estate sale as he was downsizing in a move and I acquired all the stereo equipment. We are located just south of Boston MA. All it needs is a new belt, the motor is working quietly and all parts look fine complete.
The dust cover has a few typical scuffs nut no cracks or chips. I did not test it with any records. It was carefully stored away years ago in a clean dry closet. Please see my 12 photos. It comes with the DLE diamond needle as shown, I think made by Pickering. The little disc to convert the platter to play 45's is in the box. The box has age wear with 2 flaps loose but nice to have it at all. Information and review I found. The Philips 22GA212 turntable, in short known as the Philips 212, is considered to be one of the best turntables that Philips has ever made, and it has achieved somewhat of a cult status in the eyes of audio enthusiasts and collectors. This is because of the floating suspension, and iconic green-lit touch keys. Philips introduced the GA212 in 1971 and it was produced until 1976.
It can be instantly recognized by the green-lit touch keys. It also has very loose suspension on both the platter and arm. These are mounted in a "floating" sub chassis, which results in a very low rumble value. It can play records at 33 and 45RPM. Pitch can be independently adjusted for both 33 and 45RPM.
The Philips 212 was factory fitted with the Philips GP400 cartridge, but could be upgraded to a GP401. Additionally a Philips 22GH905/00 pre-amp could be built in.Philips often re-badged their electronics with subsidiary brand names. Because the Philips 212 had a long production run of about 5 years, various small changes have been made during the production run. Early models had simple plastic hinges, these were later replaced with friction hinges, and the dust cover rest was removed. Early models had a power cord socket, but it was replaced with a fixed cable. Erratic behavior of the touch keys might be caused by the lamps.
The lights should instantly "lock on" when pressing the touch keys. Furthermore, the power key is prone to failing. Rumble: less than -62 dB (DIN B).
