This doll is a prototype, made by Lund and Co. As a sample for Mattel. I believe it was presented in 1999 or 2000.
The doll was never mass-produced for reasons I could not determine. I have not found a lot of information on this doll. I do know that the outfit on Real Barbie and the UPC were eventually reused for Mattel's 2001 Sunshine Day Barbie. The doll is in excellent condition and her eyes do blink when you turn the knob. Because she is a sample doll, she is technically "unfinished" and her neck was left exposed, probably to show the moving parts.
The box shows very little wear. It is a "sample" box and is decorated on the inside with a plain foam insert on the inside.
On the back is a cutout to access the control knob, which you can use to make the doll's eyes blink. There is also a knob or lever that moves the doll's head from side to side but I believe that is only accessible by removing the doll from the box. Sticker is on the bottom back of the box. Also, the box contains a spelling error in which they printed "hear" instead of "her". It is my understanding very few of these were made.In fact, I have only ever found one other and that is identified as having belonged to the original designer of the doll. Please see all pictures, as they are part of the description. All dolls are lightly cleaned and thoroughly inspected prior to photographing. I do not attempt thorough cleaning or stain removal (unless otherwise noted in the individual listing) and I do document any damage or imperfections I come across.
